Pretoria - Seven men were arrested in Mamelodi East, outside Pretoria, on Thursday for robbing a cigarette delivery vehicle, Gauteng police said.

The truck was targeted during its routine deliveries in Cullinan, east of Pretoria, said Captain Pinky Tsinyane.

"After seizing the cigarettes, the seven fled to Mamelodi East with the police in pursuit. They were arrested near the Mahube Complex," she said.

The cigarettes were valued at R52 000.

She said the men were found in possession also of two unlicensed firearms. Police confiscated three stolen vehicles which were used in the robbery and nine cellphones.

The men will appear in the Mamelodi Magistrate's Court soon facing charges including possession of stolen goods, possession of unlicensed firearms, and robbery.
