Johannesburg - Seven people were arrested by a joint team of the police and the National Prosecuting Authority in Pretoria on Sunday on suspicion of defrauding the Road Accident Fund (RAF) of R270 000.
RAF spokesperson Vasco Ndebele said on Monday that the seven might have lodged and claimed for accidents which never happened.
The joint team was part of a special project set up with the Road Accident Fund.
Ndebele said since the team's inception three months ago, 41 people had been arrested and eight convicted.
The RAF intended reducing fraud by at least another R100m within the current financial year.
This would be in addition to R100m it saved through arrests in the previous year, said Ndebele.
RAF chief executive Humphrey Kgomongwe applauded the latest arrests and said they reconfirmed "the efficacy of proactive investigation and financial investment by RAF to curb fraud within the Motor Vehicle Association system".
The seven people arrested would appear in Randburg magistrate's court on Monday.
