And the driver walked away from the accident without a scratch...

      Alan - 2012-05-21 11:00

(Alan2) But White and Indian police must not issue tickets to these taxi criminals? It's time for right-minded people of all colours to stand up and say 'ENOUGH - we are not going to let crooks continue to govern this country and destroy it.' Enough is now enough.

      Janice - 2012-05-21 12:29

I rest my case, no words needed on this one!!!!!

      Antin - 2012-05-21 17:15

Alan, they want Klein Apartheid back. And as long as no "Indian or whites" die in overloaded taxis, who are we to say they are wrong? In fact we should get white cops for cars /taxis driven for and by whites, and vice versa. That must be what they want.

  • edwin.cloete - 2012-05-21 10:40

and this is why they will not get the demands that they ask for

      Arthur - 2012-05-21 11:16

Two taxi's crashed into me (separate occasions) - no PDP, no drivers license, taxi unlicensed and no insurance. Forced them to drive to the police station. All that happened is that the driver got a fine. The owner is in Durban - no chance I'll recover any bucks for repairs. I feel nothing for taxi drivers and the crooks that own them.

  • Anthony - 2012-05-21 10:45

driver+7 dead + 14 injured, did you not mean a bus than a taxi?

      Freddie - 2012-05-21 11:15

No, just a regular 'mini' bus.

      Walter - 2012-05-21 11:45

The article does say "overloaded mini-bus taxi". Sounds like 21 or more people in this vehicle!!! And they (taxi drivers)are demanding to be untouchable when it comes to stopping and checking them. What! Crazy idiots causing death and destruction. Lets change this government and vote in a decent party to sort our country out. Viva DA!

  • Sharon - 2012-05-21 10:57

They make unrealistic demands, and then continue unhindered to kill innocent commuters. Their track record stinks, and yet the government lets them dictate the law and behave as they please.

  • willie.uys - 2012-05-21 11:06

Ke Nako. It is Time. Let the Government show some backbone and stop this carnage on our roads and also the blatant disregard for all road rules and regulations!! It doesn't help to pay for the funerals of thse victims of criminal acts - it just makes government partly responsible and they stand as co-accused in the murder.

      John - 2012-05-21 12:56

Don't be silly. It is of far more importance to to get JZ's "Spear" out of view than bother about the poor souls that get sacrificed on the alter of the Taxi Industry

  • siliziwem - 2012-05-21 11:08

then these moegoes want no laws against them....just go

  • Loo - 2012-05-21 11:12

I hope for the Taxi drivers sake this hapenned over lunchtime. Refer " Taxi Union demanded that they don't get fined during peak hours" ONLY IN AFRICA I SAY

  • Arthur - 2012-05-21 11:17

The only good taxi driver is a dead one.

  • bikefinalert - 2012-05-21 11:25

And they demanding what? I think not, point proven they are a hazard on the roads and play with other peoples lives

  • gregory.jurgens - 2012-05-21 11:31

And the cops can't fine these murderous maniacs.

  • Henry - 2012-05-21 11:32

Yeah well. Next time he should just drive around the corner, they just don't negotiate.

  • Victor - 2012-05-21 11:52

And they have a programme set up called arrive alive what a joke with 21 people in a 14 seater taxi !!!!!

  • Abdul - 2012-05-21 11:56

Overloaded!!!perhaps just one of the issues. Could also be a driver fatigue/ bad tyres/ speeding etc etc. Accidents dont just happen, they are caused by the actions of people>>>so every accident can be avoided. TAke a look at all the carnage and how to STOP it on the website wwwfatalmovesdotcom

  • Marz Smith - 2012-05-21 11:58

now you cant arrest the driver for murder or reckless driving because it happened in peak traffic...

  • Roger Small - 2012-05-21 12:04

government should regulate this industry...enouhh said

  • Chumscrubber1 - 2012-05-21 12:06

But the police must not victimise this poor industry, if they are not allowed to overload it will affect their profitability. They must be allowed to do as they please, this is what they fought for didn't they - free dom...

  • koos.vandermerwe.92 - 2012-05-21 12:07

I don't feel sorry for these people anymore. The commuters should sort this out. They are in the majority, they are paying to be killed. Time to sort this out by themselves. The Spear is not going to help them.

  • Chumscrubber1 - 2012-05-21 12:12

Funny, and 99% of the people they kill are black, yet you don't hear much noise coming from the current regime which claims to represent the interests of black people? Or their alliance partners? Perhaps votes are more important than black live's, there are after all a huge amount of taxi's in this country, hence a lot of potential voters?

  • tricia.sutherland1 - 2012-05-21 12:13

oh, is this the only one today or this week? why are these taxis allowed to operate when they are the reason for taking so many lives. i bet if any train or bus company were to continue being responsible for death and destruction the public would boycott them - so why not the taxis??? boycott the taxis until they improve their service.

  • Andy - 2012-05-21 12:17

In KZN the are demanding the following: Traffic police must not pull them off during peak hours. They must be allowed to stop anywhere they wish at any time. All current warrents must be cancelled and in future must be issued in ZULU. Only Zulu speaking Black Metro police must in future pull them off. No White or Indian cops. Go figure!

  • Johnny - 2012-05-21 12:24

21 people - 14 seats = ohhh look at that, the 7 people that died. Coincidence??

  • Laura - 2012-05-21 12:59

And these buggers demand that the SAPS not harrass them ...... this is even more reason to keep them on a tight leash and continuously check their vehicles, permits etc. They are killers on the road and they get away with it. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH

  • glen.e.huysamer - 2012-05-21 13:51

Taxi -Drivers breaking the law in any way should be arrested on the spot, enough is enough. Hw many more people must die because of their greed. It is time to bring in the Army to deal with this anarchist bunch of hoodlums. A crack down is in order.

  • luvo.duba - 2012-05-21 13:55

In Cape Town taxis are always overloaded and DA does nothing about that eg taxis from khayelitsha to Century City via Epping.

      Chumscrubber1 - 2012-05-21 14:13

Maybe they agree with the taxi owners version of free dom? Interesting.

      Michael - 2012-05-22 14:59

      Hahahah,dont get defensive.

  • Michael - 2012-05-22 14:56
