8 die in weekend accidents

Johannesburg - Eight people died and three were injured in separate road accidents in Gauteng and Mpumalanga, ER24 emergency services said on Monday.
Spokesperson Riana Beech said five people were killed when a bakkie and a car collided head-on on the Randfontein road at Nick Toomey in Durban Deep, Roodepoort, at about 02:00 on Monday.
Four people were declared dead on the scene and a fifth person died on the way to hospital, said Beech. Two others were seriously injured, one of whom had to be airlifted to hospital.
In a separate accident two vehicles collided on Clewer road near Tavisstok road in Witbank around 06:00 on Monday.
Both drivers died on the scene.
In an accident on Sunday evening, a man died when his car crashed through the wall of a house in Bloubosrand, Randburg.
In another accident the same evening, a truck collided with a car on the corner of Hendrik Potgieter and Van Staden roads in Roodepoort.
The driver of the car suffered serious head and face injuries. Firefighters used hydraulic equipment to free the injured man.
