8th suspect held for gang rape video

2012-04-18 14:38

Johannesburg - A man was arrested on Wednesday for abducting the 17-year-old who was gang-raped in a video that went viral.

The man could also be charged with rape. This brings to eight the number of people arrested for attacking the girl.

The 17-year-old has also been found and is at the Dobsonville police station.

"She was found with [the arrested] man in his house in... Braamfischerville, said Warrant Officer Kay Makhubele.

He said it appeared that the girl had been kept against her will.

The girl was en route to the Dobsonville police station just before 13:00 and then to see a doctor.

"Obviously she is traumatised and we are going to take her to the doctor now," said Makhubele.

On Tuesday seven people - including two minors - were arrested in Dobsonville after they matched the description of the boys and men in the video.

Meanwhile, Gauteng Community Safety MEC Faith Mazibuko said police were looking for more suspects, EWN reported.

The girl went missing in Soweto on March 25 and was raped last week.

      JohhnyBGood - 2012-04-18 14:50

Yeah, I am glad they managed to track the bastards down...

      Christelle - 2012-04-18 14:56

Well done to SAPS - but this poor girl - how does she get over something like this??? And the SOB that recorded it - he is as guilty as the others. And let us pray that they don't get bail and disappear to do it again. Let it be a swift hearing to send a serious message to any other perpetrators!

      Dineo - 2012-04-18 15:01

Well done my foot, this men in blue was suppose to track down this bastards the day the mother reported her missing 3 weeks ago. Poor mom reported and nothing was done. I say WELL DONE TO THE MEDIA

      Marion - 2012-04-18 15:17

@Dineo - I agree. They failed this girl 100%. The biggest problem in SA is that people who are not highly educated will allow the cops to get away with this because they do not feel empowered to take it higher. They need to start fighting for their rights and go wherever they have to in order to get immediate action.

      luyolo.makalima - 2012-05-11 09:39

the second abduction should have never happened .

      Mellisa - 2012-04-18 17:18

dude, the video is there already or didn't you read about the whole issue?

  • Schmee - 2012-04-18 14:58

Hope they enjoy their stay in prison.

      Klipkop - 2012-04-18 15:09

I hope they get raped while enjoying their stay in prison.

      mfudzi.wamambo - 2012-04-18 15:45

Obviously guys are waiting for them with guns blazing in prison.I personally don't hope anything for them except eternal agony in jail and in hell.

      mfudzi.wamambo - 2012-04-18 15:58

@Schmee I very much doubt that your hopes will be granted because they are supposed to pay for their sins whilst they are there and guys in prison have a way of knowing why a convict is IN. Normally they choose no action other than to give them a taste of their sour medicine. I wish i had a way of knowing how they were coping in there.

  • Arthur - 2012-04-18 14:58

Let's hope the courts don't bungle this, and instead give them the harshes sentences possibly known to mankind, and make sure they go to the meanest, cruelest and most terrifying jail.

      mfudzi.wamambo - 2012-04-18 15:47

@Hugh Influence, the first step is to deny them bail and send them straight to remand. That way society can afford a sigh of relief.

  • CopperWoody - 2012-04-18 15:11

    Pappa wag vijulle! ;)

  • Marion - 2012-04-18 15:13

More suspects? This gets worse by the minute. Poor poor poor child. I get very sad about many of the News24 stories but few bring me to tears. This one has.

  • Elsabe - 2012-04-18 15:14

For the rapists may your genitals start itching and may your hands turn into hooks. Enough said........

      mfudzi.wamambo - 2012-04-18 15:50

@Elsabe why so lenient lady? the genitals should actually bulge and prompt doctors to castrate them. there should be no second chance for such animals

  • Elsabe - 2012-04-18 15:16

For the 8 men may your genitals start itching and may your hands turn into hooks. Enough said........

      Gieljam - 2012-04-18 16:38

Elsabe Have a hart man I like fishing and know what a hook can do ....

  • Piet - 2012-04-18 15:18

Now the death penalty will be brilliant in this case. These bast@rds should just be killed and cremated.....

      Dhavandran - 2012-04-18 16:06

why waste the fuel for cremation? feed them to the crocs while they are alive.

  • thozi - 2012-04-18 15:22

I don't even know what to say because I just cannot understand how human beings can do such a thing to another - and a helpless girl at that. What happened to the morals of our society? Have we been brought up to understand human etiquette differently? What is happening?

      Tony Lapson - 2012-04-18 15:36

It boils down to upbringing and exposure to sexual acts. I can only imagine what life would be like in a township (assuming that that's where they grew up). I'm sure there is no protection for the youth against indecent exposure or sexual harassment. I believe that nurture and upbringing plays a huge part in a persons veiw on life and the decisions a person makes. The human brain is a complex organ, and life experiences shape the wiring which makes us who we are. Not sympathizing with these criminals, they must be punished.

  • alwyn.snyman1 - 2012-04-18 15:30

welcome to south africa ppl, here anything goes and it it's real.

  • luke.krishna - 2012-04-18 15:31

i am sure these guys lawyers, will ask them to plead mental instability, although they knew what they were doing; will there ever be justice for the girl, according other articles posted, it happened to her before, and the cases was withdrawn or discarded becuase she was unable to give proper evidence. I wonder what the prosecutors going to do. I would love to see them, castrated.

      Marion - 2012-04-18 16:27

@Luke - hopefully this time the videotape will speak for her and she will eventually get justice for all the inhumanity she has been subjected to in her life.

  • Alister.Senzo - 2012-04-18 15:32

Poor girl shem! May the culprits rote in jail. Nx! Cnt imagine wat shez going through.

  • Dineo - 2012-04-18 15:33

Well Done to the Media Men In Blue were suppose to track down this bastards the day the mother reported her missing. Our police should also be held responsible for this act and as for the 14 year old i dont know what to say i am speechless

  • desertratbkf - 2012-04-18 15:42

Who are these "thumbs down" scum? Do they really think that this barbaric, inhumane act was a good thing? WTF!!!!!! Filth like the vermin that did it! Low life!!!!

      Tony Lapson - 2012-04-18 15:47

You cannot make assumptions based on likes and dislikes. Are they liking what was said or what was done? Are they disliking the commenter or what the criminals did or do they simply have something against a specific commenter and spitefully thumb everything down?

      Marion - 2012-04-18 16:32

@desertratbkf - It is better just to ignore the thumbs down on what you think were legitimate and decent comments. Sometimes I like part of a comment but not the rest at which time I may comment rather than giving a thumbs up or down.

  • Promise Dube - 2012-04-18 15:45

Let them rot in jail as they dnt deserve to b amng us wt their animalistic behaviour

      Eugene Walters - 2012-04-18 15:51

now they geta lawyer who will defend the scum and make her the culprit

  • Dhavandran - 2012-04-18 15:48

make rape a capital punishment offence and bring back the death sentence for confirmed cases in such as rape and murder.i am glad the men in blue got these bastards and lets hope the justice system does not fail the victim on technicalities.

      Tyron - 2012-04-18 16:19

  • Antipoaching - 2012-04-18 15:58

Well done SAPS!!..... Pity you didnt shoot to kill these rapists, but swift action nonetheless

      Marion - 2012-04-18 16:34

@Antipoaching - actually it wasn't swift action by the SAPS if the reports are correct about her mother trying to report her missing three weeks ago and being turned away.

  • Refiloe - 2012-04-18 16:00

    they should rot in jail

  • mfudzi.wamambo - 2012-04-18 16:00

@Klipkop of course they will be raped and there is no doubt about it. I just hope there are no youngsters who were involved in this evil act

      Marion - 2012-04-18 16:35

@mfudzi - is 14 a youngster? Two were minors and therefore under 18.

  • Tyron - 2012-04-18 16:18

let the public decide what to do with these men!!

  • Dolores - 2012-04-18 16:36

MOre too this story? This is a everyday occurrence, why the hoopla about this. This si the mantra of Africa, There is absolutely nothing but savages, cannibals, and genocidal maniacs in africa. And we have pumped over a $$$100 trillion supporting their way of life.

      Liz - 2012-04-18 16:53

Dolores, I am a South African and I am neither a savage nor a genocidal maniac. And I sure as hell do not eat other human beings. Please do not generalise like you do here, it makes you seem exceptionally ignorant. Just like ALL countries, even your beloved America, there exists both truly evil maniacs, and upstanding citizens.

      Grace - 2012-04-18 18:28

Dolores are you drunk or one of the rapists' mothers?

  • Leanne - 2012-04-18 16:58

Let,s keep her in our prayers nd 4 those guys I,m speechless:(

  • John - 2012-04-18 17:03

Disgusting, they deserve to rot in jail

  • Mellisa - 2012-04-18 17:14

if the media hadn't handled this, the damn police wouldn't have reacted. wha took them so long? she'd been missing for more than 3 weeks. glad justice still gets to be served. but these people should be charged for more than just rape. kidnapping and assault should give them more than ample time to get their act together. if only rapists also got life cuz their victims will never forget and will always sleep with one eye open

  • Thabo Majova - 2012-04-18 17:18

Dolores,i've got 2 daughters n feels 4 da poor girl n whether u pumped trillion $ u must feel sorry 4 her 2 n nt judge da whole country.

  • Jennifer - 2012-04-18 17:42

The advent of high res video is helping police and citizens apprehend scum. Lets hope the Courts improve as well and make these guys pay support for the poor girl for the rest of her life. A short stay in jail with their friends isn't sufficient.

  • Sewela Marcia Rapudubudu - 2012-04-18 19:28

Mom u didn't even bother to report missing case, just wonder if this poor girl is your biological daughter. What the f*ck

      Liz - 2012-04-19 08:08

Sewela- I read in one of the other articles that the mother had tried to report her daughter missing 3 weeks ago, but the cops turned her away and wouldn't open up a case. So sad. I'm glad they found her and caught these monsters, but one can't help thinking that maybe if they had looked for her in the first place, none of this might have happened.

  • Johnnie - 2012-04-19 00:50

The problem with these rapists are not their genitals, but their brains. That is why the only remedy is execution and NOT castration!

  • Natacha - 2012-04-19 10:29

why don't they leave that dog's for the community,so they can sort them out..this guys are not, men or boys they are worst then animals, the deserve to get burned in hell.hopefully the go to jail and get gang rape as well, until they die!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.
