Johannesburg - Nine people were killed and 12 were injured in a taxi accident in Sterkspruit in the Eastern Cape on Saturday, provincial transport authorities said.
The driver of the taxi apparently lost control of the vehicle causing it to roll down an embankment, said Arrive Alive spokesperson Tshepo Machaea.
Machaea was on his way to the scene and could not immediately provide further information.
Meanwhile, 24 people were injured in an accident involving two taxis in Durban, paramedics said.
"A taxi drove into the side of another taxi at the intersection of Commercial and Field streets causing it to roll," said Netcare 911 spokesperson Jeffrey Wicks.
Eight people out of the 24 were seriously injured, he said.
They were taken to hospital.
