Cape Town - A whopping 98% of the people who sent emails to Members of Parliament have asked that the motion of no confidence in President Jacob Zuma be supported.

News24 and OpenUp developed a tool to enable South Africans to choose a parliamentarian to contact and ask them to vote in one way or another during the motion of no confidence scheduled for August 8.

A total of 7 186 emails were sent to MPs. Only 136 were sent asking them not to support the motion, of which 118 were to ANC MPs. Only 23 emails asked MPs to abstain from voting on the motion, with the rest asking them to support the motion.

The vast majority of the emails - 4 580 - were sent to ANC MPs, with the DA in second place (1 655), and the EFF in a distant third place (323).

Parliamentary Speaker Baleka Mbete is the individual MP who received the most emails (301), followed by relatively unknown ANC MP Adrian Williams (151).

Democratic Alliance leader Mmusi Maimane received the third most (142).

Half of the names of the top ten recipients start with an "A", which might explain why Williams is so high on the list. Following Maimane are Deputy Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs Andries Nel and Communications Minister Ayanda Dlodlo.

DA MP Alan Mcloughlin is in the sixth place with 90 emails, 8 more than his chief whip John Steenhuisen. In 10th place is DA MP Anchen Dreyer, with 59 emails.
ANC chief whip Jackson Mthembu received 70 , two more than former finance minister Pravin Gordhan.

EFF leader Julius Malema just missed out on the top ten, with 51 emails placing him in 11th place. Outspoken ANC MP Dr Makhosi Khoza received 10.
