Johannesburg - A request from the Automobile Association (AA) for clarification of the legal aspects of the card driver's licences, which the department of transport received on March 17, only made it's way to the manager of road traffic management's desk on Monday morning.
Lisa Mangcu said when he received the request on Monday morning he immediately sent it to the legal department. "I will comment on the issue on Tuesday - even though we missed Friday's response date."
The AA's letter deals with the department's intent to cancel driver's licences in identity documents after the cut-off date for applications for the card licences at the end of this month.
The AA maintains that the administrative process should not prevent people from driving their vehicles.
Only 2 059 transfers to the new system were done on Friday countrywide, as opposed to the 71 787 needed to reach the target of 1 076 805 within the remaining 15 working days.
