Johannesburg - The African National Congress and the Democratic Alliance wished all Muslims a happy Eid on Friday.

"For the past month, the faithful had deprived themselves of food and drink from before sunrise until sunset, solely for the pleasure of their almighty," ANC spokesperson Jackson Mthembu said in a statement.

"The African National Congress wishes all Muslims Eidul Fitr Mubaarak."

Eid marked the end of the holy month of Ramadaan.

Muslims all over the world would celebrate Eidul-Fitr on Friday after fasting during the month of Ramadaan.

DA leader Helen Zille wished those observing the day peace and happiness.

"May this day be one of peace and joy for you and your family," she said.
