ANC: Don't use murder to polarise SA

2010-04-04 15:34
Johannesburg - The ANC on Sunday called on all South Africans and political parties not to use the murder of AWB leader Eugene Terre'Blanche to polarise the nation.

"We appeal for calmness and non-provocation at this time because the police are hard at work in dealing with this matter," spokesperson Jackson Mthembu said in a statement.

"We make this call to all South Africans to refrain from making speculative pronouncements on [the] Terre'Blanche murder as the perpetrators, who are alleged to be workers at his farm, have handed themselves to the law enforcement authorities..."

The ANC condemned the murder saying no amount of reason could justify the crime.

Mthembu said South Africa had a progressive constitution that dealt with various issues.

"All of us, as citizens of South Africa must uphold the basic human rights as enshrined in our Constitution as a fundamental pillar of our democracy".

Terre'Blanche, 69, was attacked by a man and minor who worked for him after they allegedly had an argument over unpaid wages around 18:00 on Saturday.

The party sent its condolences to the family.
