ANC calls urgent meeting over Mandla Mandela

2012-01-26 12:23

Johannesburg - The ANC in the Eastern Cape has called for an urgent meeting with the Mandela family to discuss Mandla Mandela's personal life, a newspaper reported on Thursday.

The high profile delegation, which will be led by ANC secretary general Gwede Mantashe, wanted to meet elders of the Mandela family to prevent the Mandela name from suffering any more embarrassments, The Times reported.

"We are treating all matters very seriously. It is our concern that this meeting must happen as soon as possible," said ANC provincial spokesperson Mlibo Qoboshiyane.

The ANC is reportedly concerned about Mandla Mandela's continuing negative actions and the effects it could have on former president Nelson Mandela, his grandfather.

Two village chiefs were also expected to attend the meeting.

"This thing with Mandela is out of hand. Nobody can dictate to him, but he is tarnishing the Mandela name with all these wives he marries and wants to marry. He feels he is law unto [himself] and does not even want to listen to anyone," said one of the chiefs expected to attend the meeting.

Mandla made headlines when his first wife Tando Mabunu-Mandela filed for divorce claiming he was introducing polygamy into their marriage.

While the divorce from Mabunu-Mandela was still pending Mandela married Anais Grimaud but the marriage was annulled.

In June 2011, the Eastern Cape High Court restricted Mandela from accessing his bank accounts to stop him from disposing of any assets before the divorce from Mabunu-Mandela was finalised.

The same court restricted Mandela from marrying Mbalenhle Makhathini in December last year but he defied the order when he married her in the same month.

Mandela was in court again after he was accused of expropriating land from families in the Eastern Cape to build a hotel and a stadium.

      Lyndatjie - 2012-01-26 12:48

He shares but the name of a great man - he himself unfortunately will remain a child stomping his feet for attention. Sad.

      Bardy - 2012-01-26 12:52

@ Lyndatjie – So true! And he also thinks he can get away with anything…

      chantelebrown - 2012-01-26 12:56

      Well said Bardy.

      RSole - 2012-01-26 13:00

One would think that some of the integrity, humility and moral fiber might have been passed down the generations from his grandfather. Sadly not.

In marketing, damage to a brand can be catastrophic. The Mandela brand was already tarnished by the Winnie clown but now it seems out of hand. I suggest this rouge grandchild changes his name to Kim-Yong-ill-2

      Alan - 2012-01-26 13:01

The President of SA has his own tribe of wife and kids that the taxpayer forks out for. That however is ok?

      Bryan - 2012-01-26 13:08

Sound like yet another case of the pot calling the kettle black..( Is it politically correct to say that??)

      Betweenuandme - 2012-01-26 13:12

Mandla Mandela is a grown man, he should be able to live his life the way he wants to without the ANC's interference. Why doesn't a "high-profile delegation" and "urgent meeting" get called for really serious things? The ANC believe they own the Mandela franchise - it's their ticket to securing votes and loyalty.

      goyougoodthing - 2012-01-26 13:24

I still can't work out this 'Mandela' legacy. Default leader of the ANC as he outlived the rest, his first wife has a very dubious history with matches and his 2nd was married to a dictator of epic proportions. Nice legacy.

      jannie.beirowski - 2012-01-26 13:32

I do not know of him being prosecuted for getting married against a court order, so maybe he can get away with anything.

      Dean - 2012-01-26 16:19

@Alicia - make him president, Thats how Zuma got there.

      John - 2012-01-26 21:55

It starts with the CORRUPTION OF THE MIND; Kasrils, a white communist from USSR, comes and tells the Black People of South Africa that Barbarism and Savagery = stealing and killing, is OK against the Whites. Just that you do not call it stealing and killing, you call it the LIBERATION STRUGGLE. And the whole FALSE STORY is called the national democratic revolution, ndr. Than comes the CORRUPTION OF THE MORALS. Since 1982 Gorbachov who became PRESIDENT OF USSR, denounced communism and the ndr as a FAILURE. But the SA Communist Party and the ANC don't believe him. By 1987 the Chinese Communist Party was reforming AWAY from communism and the ndr, stating that China was 50 years behind Hong Kong. But the SA Communist Party and the ANC don't believe Hu Jintao. The India Government ABANDONS socialism/communism towards FREE MARKET REFORMS. But the SA Communist Party and the ANC don't believe them. They sent 3 guys to Moscow in + - 1993 to find out what is happening. The now Russians ex-communist officials laugh at their naive belief in the false communist propaganda. the SA Communist Party and its puppet the ANC, still hold on to false communist lies. Than comes the FINANCIAL CORRUPTION. Anc = Association of National Criminals, Abortion Murder Genocide. Destroying South Africa since 1957.

'This thing with Mandela is out of hand" - correction this thing with the entire ANC is out of hand....!

      phumlanii - 2012-01-26 12:55

Couldn't have said it better. I think ANC is a disgrace to those who voted for it in power.

      procold2 - 2012-01-26 12:56

mike the anc is rife with corruption and bad goings on we see this every day on this site and yes somthing needs to be done, hopefully people will use their vote wisly but i think this article is more about the mandela name that this youngster is draging through the mud,i for one also would not like to see mandelas name tarnished as he was very good for this countries democracy and earned a lot of respect from black ,white, pink, yellow, brown, green people, i would like him to be remembered for all that he did and not everytime the madela name is mentioned a person thinks of this little riff raff he has for a grandson.hope fully the guy has enough respect for his grandfather and chiefs to listen.

      Citroes - 2012-01-26 12:56

Your ANC - NO FUTURE - HA HA HA!!!

      Myancmyfuture - 2012-01-26 13:39

@ Phumlani, what disgrace, we were not born with silver spoons in our mouths. We have not been been dissappointed by the ANC hence we continue to vote it to power and I don't know why should we be disgraced by the fact that mandla cannot be satisfied by one woman. That's his issue not ours.

      Dianna - 2012-01-26 14:24

Mike I couldn't agree with you more .........

      Mike - 2012-01-26 15:02

@ Myancmyfuture - your ANC your future has stolen from the public the staggering amount of R 128.000.000.000 between 1994 - 2008, add the R 26.000.000.000 lost in the last financial year plus the R 4.000.000.000 wasted multiply that by three for 2009, 2010 and 2011 - you are looking at a total of R 218.000.000.000 give or take a few Billions... not disappointed by the ANC - I am disgusted! What one could do with R 218.000.000.000.... let your imagination run!

      Myancmyfuture - 2012-01-26 15:45

@ Mike, can you provise a link to your guesstistics

      rianadk - 2012-01-26 16:17

@ Myancmyfuture..."@ Mike, can you provise a link to your guesstistics". Can you provide a link to where you got the word "guesstistics" from...I see you use it in every second comment you make!

      Mike - 2012-01-27 10:26

@ MyANCMyFuture - I suggest you google your great party - some of the google words I recommend are: ANC, corruption, poverty, corruption data, open democracy, corruption in South Africa, money lost South Africa. And why do you think Hofmeyer was fired - remember his words: "Between R25 billion and R30 billion of the South African government’s procurement budget alone is lost annually to corruption, incompetence and negligence in the public service". Said in Parliament last year - what happened to him - he was fired, why because your corrupt leaders could not take the truth... that is why they showed him the door.

  • David - 2012-01-26 12:33

The government has created these monsters. The I want, I deserve, I am entitled to mentality is only surfacing now. If everybody else can do it why can't I? This is only the beginning of the end.

  • John - 2012-01-26 12:35

"The same court restricted Mandela from marrying Mbalenhle Makhathini in December last year but he defied the order when he married her in the same month". Have him up for contempt..... I can see the elders sitting under a tree with the ANC..... "now how are we going to sweep these things under the carpet and keep them out of the press? "

  • Cindy - 2012-01-26 12:37

Once his grandfathers pride and joy, now a mere tinpot dictator

  • Shirley - 2012-01-26 12:39

Wish they would react so fast to corrupt ministers! They seem to have a lot of fires to put out lately -lets hope the water supply lasts. Mandla is a nothing riding the gravy train on his grandfathers name!

  • Cina - 2012-01-26 12:40

Why didn't the anc then had a meeting with JZ about his many wife's, before he married the how many-ith one, to me whats good to the one is good for the other.

  • Grimmister - 2012-01-26 12:41

The ANC has absolutely nothing to do with Mandla Mandela. If he is a member of the ANC, then all members should be combed with the same comb...starting right at the top. The only reason they are getting their panties in a knot, is because they can use the issue of the Mandela name to take the focus away from the current ANC hierarchy that leads by the very same example.

  • CarlS - 2012-01-26 12:42

So Zumer can but Mandla can't? Double standards?

  • Michele - 2012-01-26 12:42

This guy looks like the rotten apple of the family and is under the impression that he can do as he pleases because of the family name. Things must be really getting out of hand if Mantashe has to personally intervene.

  • Jay - 2012-01-26 12:50

i think this country is descending so rapidly,it is shocking to see that the Mandela legacy is going in such a destructive direction.the saying goes that you give an inch-they take a yard. Now imagine what will become of once our beloved country if you give a 'CHINA'

  • David - 2012-01-26 13:06

you see greatness is not genetic!, now can all leaders acknowledge that and allow great men and women a chance to lead instead of allowing entitlement to take over and stunt the societies we live in.

      Elaine - 2012-01-27 09:23

What made Mandela great was his suffering unfortunately. He was a firebrand in the old days.

  • Deon - 2012-01-26 13:11

I met him personally and did bussines with him. Their is nothing wrong with this guy, he is just another person trying to do bussines in this corrupt society (Goverment)!!! If his surname was Dudu, no one would give a s..t!!!

      cameronrh1 - 2012-01-26 16:32

If his name was "Dudu" he would be in jail already. His name "Mandela" is the only thing keeping him out of it.

  • mario - 2012-01-26 13:16

  • roets.nico - 2012-01-26 13:45

  • Thelma - 2012-01-26 14:13

  • Lordwick - 2012-01-26 14:29

What a quick reaction? They must react with the same pace to this country's downfall,ie South Afriac's financial waste.I am correct if i say is due to the fact that they are using Mandela to canvass during elections specifically to the majority of old, illiterate and ignorant south africans.Because if you can mentioned the surname "MANDELA" to the above-mentioned majoprity, they would quickly believe without a doubt that you are talking about Nelson and therefore no wounder this present ruling corrupt ANC leaders are reacting so quick.

      Elaine - 2012-01-27 09:22

Yes. Talk about majoring on minors, sweating the small stuff, all those boring cliches once again, trying to look as though they are earning their keep. Who CARES if Mandla commits bigamy please? Mandela's legacy is tainted any way

  • DrGonzoSA - 2012-01-26 15:15

Nice that they have done this because of his latest marriage. The looting at Aurora and failure to pay the employees while he enriched himself is obviously OK and not worthy of a meeting.

  • Josh - 2012-01-26 15:25

This makes me wonder how different Mandela would have been if he was in the current generation of leadership. Do you think he would have been above all of this? Or do you think he was just in the right place at the right time in a manner of speaking?

  • Yolanda - 2012-01-26 15:32

The ANC can't force the man to have integrity (do they even have it?). It's either you have it or you don't and clearly Mandla doesn't know the meaning.

Gwede Mantashe never called a meeting when they fail to pay employees at Aurora, why now?

      Elaine - 2012-01-27 09:18

I agree. This dreadful scandal of the Aurora mines default and all the poor people who have been left high and dry by Madela's grandson and Zuma' gross nephew is much more of a slur on the Mandela namethan a man who can't keep his marriage vows! And nothing was said about Aurora!

Being a Mandela does not give an immunity from constructing your legacy. I think your arrogance and misbehaviour are influenced by the fact that what you have materially you never worked for. It seems as if the Mandela surname carries the Kennedy's curse.

This is a genuine question: How is it that he's in trouble yet Zuma has??? official wives? And can carry on adding to the string as long as the tax man pays? Is it just because Mandla married his wife Tando through legal channels and is trying to do the same with the next one, and Zuma's wives are all married via tribal custom ?

  • Barbara - 2012-01-27 09:34

This man has no respect for anybody, but shouldn't the ANC also concentrate on Zuma's nephrew who is screwing the country, the people and the mines he supposedly runs? Isn't that a more serious issue that warrants a top ANC officials meeting?
