Johannesburg - The ANC wished matric pupils well for their exams, which begin on Monday.

"We attach importance in the effort by all students to register impressive marks as they complete their high school level in preparation to proceed to tertiary levels," spokesperson Keith Khoza said in a statement on Sunday.

Doing well in matric exams was a crucial step towards equipping the pupils with the skills they would need to contribute to the country in the future, Khoza said.

"We are hopeful that the effort made by the department of basic education, teachers, school governing bodies and parents to prepare matriculants will build on previous successes..."

The African National Congress urged all South Africans to support matrics in their preparations for the final exams.
