ANC withdraws condoms

2012-01-29 09:48

Johannesburg - The Free State health department is recalling over a million condoms delivered for the ANC's centenary celebrations, over concerns they may be sub-standard, City Press reported on Sunday.

Although they still had to be tested in a laboratory, the department decided to withdraw them, provincial health department spokesperson Jabu Mbalula was quoted as saying.

According to a Treatment Action Campaign (TAC) member the department ordered 8700 boxes of condoms.

"People would claim that the condoms burst. When we investigated the complaints it turned out the condoms are porous," Sello Mokhalipi, who works for the TAC and Free State HIV/Aids, told the paper.

The boxes of Choice government condoms, which bore the SA Bureau of Standards stamp, were delivered to guesthouses, hotels, bars, and restaurants ahead of the ANC's centenary celebrations held from January 6 to 8.

According to Mbalula they were ordered from the national health department.

Another - pardon the expression - ANC screw-up. No doubt the tender to supply these goods was awarded to some politically connected entity without proper procedures being followed.

      Jack - 2012-01-29 10:36

Huh...well i guess it's an improvement on the previous condom handout, were the ANC government stapled condoms to pamphlets. Stupid idiots.

      John - 2012-01-29 11:11

That is epic... Imagine this bed time story from father to son: "Eish...was a congress....biiig one, but was a proooblem. Now thats why we call you "Hundred"...

      Francois - 2012-01-29 11:13

The first ladies are always on top as Zuma can only screw up. The problem is that the Government should not pay for condoms for an ANC function. Then the ANC should rather stick to screwing one another, at own cost, but not the country. They should also not think that they are the world's greatest lovers in handing out millions of condoms for 100, 000 people. That honours goes to the WP rugby team who can stay on top for 80 min and still come second.

      Max - 2012-01-29 11:22

I think it is just a case of the ANC pricks' heads becomming to big.

      Dirk - 2012-01-29 11:27

The worst of all, it seems as if they are recalling them after the event- must have been many complaints!!! I cannot help but seeing the funny side of this.

      Louis - 2012-01-29 11:33

No doubt the tender was awarded to the most expensive black tender with connections in government. I would say thanks to this guy. Just think how many were infected because of thses sub standard condoms

      Ray - 2012-01-29 16:33

      There's a hole in my condom,dear Lisa,dear Lisa,there's a hole in my condom,dear Lisa a hole. With what shall I fix it........

      Erich - 2012-01-29 17:39

How are you recalling condoms, especially if it was used. Do you require the original packaging?

      Wesley - 2012-01-29 19:18

Somebody staple the intructions to the condoms

      nico.dejongh.90 - 2012-10-16 08:40

  • paul.coetzee1 - 2012-01-29 10:24

Is it the condoms that are of poor quality or is it the centenary celebrations that were of poor quality or was it the "end users"that were of poor quality?

  • DjCapiche - 2012-01-29 10:31

now they should withdraw some party members that are sub-standard too!

  • Chris - 2012-01-29 10:33

sounds like a party of note...

      George - 2012-01-29 12:07

They should learn to get themself in hand

  • miyo27 - 2012-01-29 10:40

the ANC has also been delivered poorly and are also sub-standard, can they be recalled as well??

  • Sharon - 2012-01-29 10:42

During the first day my son went to college, he was given a welcome note, with a condom attached to it - problem: it was attached with a staple in the centre of the packet!

  • Assis - 2012-01-29 10:42

These condoms makes the ANC look like real pricks.

  • pierre.hough1 - 2012-01-29 10:42

Why discard them? Use them as shower head covers when it rains ...

  • Scouter - 2012-01-29 10:47

Can't wait for the Great Condom Cover Up to unfold - so to speak!

  • Charl - 2012-01-29 10:48

    HAhahahahahahaha

  • Piet - 2012-01-29 10:48

The poor quality fits right in......

  • Andre - 2012-01-29 10:59

Simple question: why is tax money used to appease the sexual lusts of certain individuals, is sexual gratification not for their own account? That money can rather be spent on education and health!

  • Rob - 2012-01-29 11:00

Looks like self inflated stories of ANC power. How can they fail to be all powerful when condoms don't stop them. Of course, someone will claim that the specs were for whiteys. Or is it just anothe f**k-up?

      flyswat - 2012-01-29 13:03

Yes, of course... and someone did. But the truth is, a condom can only be used once, not 12 times on 12 different people.

  • ronel.cousins - 2012-01-29 11:11

    KEEP SPREADING THE LOVE!

  • Chikwendu Ede - 2012-01-29 11:23

what happens to the millions who have already used the condoms thinking they were protected. I hope someone is sued

      Fanie - 2012-01-29 11:28

I don't have a problem if they were not protected!!!

      flyswat - 2012-01-29 13:02

The ANC doing their own version of population control. Their dumbness is bright sometimes!

      Danelle - 2012-01-31 20:26

I agree, Chikwendu. And i can't for the life of me think why 15 people dislike your comment. Oh wait, they could be Christians of the variety that hate their brothers and sisters for actually having sex.

  • Raul - 2012-01-29 11:25

Not only the condoms burst, the ANC is also bursting, but not for being porous.

  • Fanie - 2012-01-29 11:26

The ANC doesn't have a problem with the animal and barbaric sexual lifestyle of its members, just with the condoms!!!!

  • Sharon - 2012-01-29 11:29

Ohhhh, is that why everyone left during JZ's speech, it wasn't because the speech was boring, they simply had something better to do! Note to ANC: hand out the free condoms AFTER the speeches!

  • Piston - 2012-01-29 11:30

lol...reminds me of the census awhihle back when they stapled a form to the condom. Besides that massive stupidity it was actually outdone by the reason given for giving the census counters condoms was "in case they had sex with someone in the household"...ffs...what kind of morality does that culture have!

  • Ian - 2012-01-29 12:08

no no no its all wrong, it should read, anc withdraws itself because of poor quality

  • SM1012 - 2012-01-29 12:09

I really lost interest in ANC...the current leadership is so disgusting...I stay in Bloem, after the Centenary I passed at ANC Regional Office...guess what I saw, thousand of Mineral Water Bottles which were meant for people on Sunday Centenary...my point is, why did they buy Water for people wheras NONE was provided at STADIUM...EISH baanana Republic.

  • alexandra.nett - 2012-01-29 12:14

ONE MILLION CONDOMS FOR A TWO DAY CELEBRATION......these clowns are celebrating 100 years of "being" so instead of being able to boast all the achievements they have managed.....ie. breaking promises to their people....instead they plan to copulate.....HEAR THE PRIMAL SCREAM! I am surprised that they can even manage to do the deed.....look at them what they actually look like from their feeding frenzy.....like I have said before, they probably cannot even turn to wipe their bums they are so overfed so how are they going to get to use these condoms......GRAB, FEED AND CARRY ON......MONEY STILL CANNOT BUY CLASS! You have turned this country into a banana republic.....Make hay while the sun shines sweethearts.......soon your own people will oust you!

  • H.Les.Mitchell - 2012-01-29 12:16

Here in England we celebrate an event such as the Queen's Diamond Jubilee with street parties and packets of sweets handed out to children. In the USA they celebrate one of their major anniversaries with flags, bunting and braais; in the RSA the celebrate with a million leaky condoms! That's one for the Guiness Book of Records.

  • George - 2012-01-29 12:17

condoms burst.Limpopo bust makes you think

  • Nadine Booyse - 2012-01-29 12:18

The ANC is not just screwing us taxpayers but the appear to be screwing themselves as well. Long live AIDs

  • Whitty - 2012-01-29 12:35

The problem is,the condoms are designed and sized based on the white man's willy (made in Europe) and the China man's willy(made in China). That is why they burst when we use them. it's time to design MADE IN AFRICA condoms.

  • Herbert - 2012-01-29 12:37

For people used to "stretching the truth" those condoms were perhaps too "transparent" !!!!!

  • mikeangell61 - 2012-01-29 12:39

To much Jigs Jiga on the ANC celebration.EISH!!!! No good condom. Mistake. No good.

  • flyswat - 2012-01-29 12:49

What do you call this; autogenocide??

  • Herbert - 2012-01-29 12:51

I do hope when they "withdraw" they make sure the condoms are still there !!!!

  • Herbert - 2012-01-29 12:54

  • Marshall - 2012-01-29 17:33

Hope the used condoms are also returned to mr Mbalula's office for testing. Hand out branded ones during the conference in Mangaung.
