ANCWL wants probe into KZN murders

Johannesburg - The brutal murders of two women in Vryheid should be investigated for a possible serial killer or killers in the area, the ANC Woman's League said on Monday.

"As the ANCWL [in Abaqulusi] we are concerned about the incidents of brutal killing of women in the area," spokesperson Esther Qwabe said in a statement.

"We want the MEC [Willies Mchunu] to pay special attention because we might be in danger of a serial killer."

The league called for a special investigation into the murder of Buyisile Xaba, who was found cut open from her chest to her private parts on Saturday in Vryheid.

Her body was found by a shepherd under a tree after she went missing on Friday evening.

In another incident , Bonisile Mabaso's body was found on Friday night in Bhekezulu township in Vryheid.

A group of men apparently attacked her on her way home from church, stabbing her 10 times.

"We call on the national minister of women, children and disabled, Lulu Xingwane and MEC Mchunu to investigate into ways in which rural women and women who are farm workers, can be protected from crime as they have become easy targets," Qwabe said.

The league also asked the community to report any information they had relating to the murders.

"As the ANCWL we will not rest up until we see justice," Qwabe said.
