Johannesburg - The ANC Youth League refused to accept a memorandum from AfriForum youth in Johannesburg on Friday.

AfriForum national youth chairperson Ernst Roets said the ANC headquarters, Luthuli House, was surrounded by police and they were refused entry.

Earlier, AfriForum CEO Kallie Kriel said the Youth League did not want to receive their memorandum.

"We are going to send somebody to drop it off at their reception. If he [ANCYL leader Julius Malema] wants to read it, he will but we will definitely see him in court."

AfriForum has drawn up a list of 1 600 people murdered on South African farms in recent years, to show that Malema's recent singing of "kill the boer" could have consequences.

Malema sang it at his birthday celebration in Polokwane and at a student gathering in Johannesburg earlier in March.

Earlier the crowd was addressed by singer Steve Hofmeyr who said President Jacob Zuma's quiet diplomacy on Malema's "kill the boer" statement was worrying.

White people are quiet

"We come in peace, it has been 15 years of speeches and talks but white people are quiet. White people must stop being so quiet," he said.

Another speaker, Sean Else, said they were all citizens of this country despite colour or race.

"Government who speak hate against its own citizens is unheard of.

"Act up against Malema now. We want respect from government and then we will respect them in return."

The crowd also observed a moment's silence in honour of a farmer Jan Wheeler who was killed in Limpopo last week – just three days after Malema sang the "kill the Boer" song.

A letter from the family of the deceased was also read out to the crowd.
