Johannesburg - A man in possession of 35 bags of perlemoen has been arrested in Beaufort West, Western Cape police said on Thursday.

Captain Bernadine Steyn said police stopped the 33-year-old man, who was driving a BMW X5 with a trailer, in the Karoo on Wednesday.

They seized 35 bags of shucked perlemoen and 2 709 pieces of perlemoen found in the trailer.

She said the street value of the perlemoen was yet to be determined by the department of agriculture, forestry and fisheries.
The man was apparently on his way to Johannesburg.

I hope they have confiscated the car and trailer already, his bank accounts should be frozen, and all his assets seized.
