Durban - Three pupils and a woman were killed in a crash between their bus and a truck in Ballito, KwaZulu-Natal on Friday.

The children were in the mid-teens and were travelling in a bus with about 12 people on their way back from an adventure camp, said Sam Meyrick, from IPSS Medical Rescue.

The crash was at the intersection of the R102 and Compensation road, along the north coast. Two other people required advanced life support, and another four had injuries such as fractures. Two had minor injuries.

The truck driver appeared to be unharmed.

Meyrick said the cause was not yet known, but the intersection was notorious for bad accidents.

Netcare911 paramedics said firemen at the scene had to use the jaws of the life to free the injured, and paramedics had to climb in to the wreckage to stabilise those still trapped, until they were freed.
