Alberton girl raped, murdered

2010-08-28 07:33
Johannesburg - A nine-year old girl was raped and murdered and her body was buried in a veld in Alberton, Gauteng police said on Friday.

"Her parents reported her missing (on Thursday) and then her body was found buried in a hole on Friday. She had been raped and then axed to death," said Captain Manaka Raphulu.

A 36-year old man had been arrested after a tip-off from the community.

Raphulu said the girl's parents last saw her shortly after noon on Thursday when she went to a nearby tuck-shop.

It was though that the man kidnapped her at the tuck-shop and took her to his home where he raped her before burying her in the open veld.

Community members saw the man with blood on his clothes and went to his house where they found an axe, a wheelbarrow, a spade and the girl's underwear. They called the police.

"Then we found the hole with the body in it on Friday," said Raphulu. "There was going to be mob justice. The community wanted to kill him," he added.
