Johannesburg - The power supply has been restored in Alberton following recurring problems at the Truida Road substation, the Ekurhuleni municipality said on Tuesday.
"The municipality started switching the power back [on] late in the evening yesterday [Monday], phasing in area after area," said spokesperson Sam Modiba.
"We are equally relieved, together with affected customers, that we were able to finally restore supply."
Modiba said the restoration of power supply was an interim measure and meant that the supply was only about 70% reliable.
Parts of Alberton have been without electricity since Saturday because of damaged circuit breakers.
He said work to revamp the substation was underway.
"The municipality has made an undertaking that by end of March the substation will be as good as new."
