Johannesburg - A man, who allegedly raped seven women,
was arrested in Port Shepstone, KwaZulu-Natal police said on Wednesday.
Police spokesperson Thulani Zwane said the 32-year-old
man was found by members of the Port Shepstone tactical response team and the
Umzinto family violence, child protection and sexual offences unit on Tuesday.
"He fiercely resisted arrest, but was brought to
Port Shepstone police station, where he was handed over to the investigating
officer."
Zwane said the man would appear in the Umzinto
Magistrate's Court soon.
Provincial police commissioner Lieutenant-General
Mmamonnye Ngobeni said in a statement she was impressed by the arrest.
"The suspect started his alleged criminal activities
since 2008, and he has been linked to seven other cases of rape," she said
"We urge anyone in the Dududu and Scottburgh areas
who fell prey to this alleged predator of vulnerable women and girls as young
as 14 to report the matter to the police, so that the suspect can be prosecuted
successfully."
