Johannesburg - A man accused of killing 3-year-old Cuburne van Wyk is expected to appear in the Boksburg Magistrate's Court on Monday.

Nathaniel Katlego Mpoku was arrested in August, days after Van Wyk's body was found at a mine dump.

The boy disappeared on 6 August while playing outside with his siblings.

A passer-by found his body at a mine dump in Reiger Park three days later. Police said he died from multiple head injuries and burn wounds.

At his appearance on 17 December, the State asked for a postponement, stating that the National Director of Public Prosecutions needed more time to decide on the matter.

Mpoku abandoned his bail and was being kept in custody.
