Cape Town - Three men who allegedly killed a doorman outside a popular Long Street bar in Cape Town will remain in custody for two more weeks.

Ubaid van der Bergh, Toufiq Essa and Nasbie Edwards appeared in the Cape Town Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday morning in the hope that their bail applications would finally go ahead.

The trio, dressed in tracksuits, smiled at times and appeared relaxed.

They have tried to get bail for the last two weeks, but their applications have been rolled over twice because of a number of constraints, such as packed court rolls.

Prosecutor Dail Andrews said on Wednesday that there was a shortage of prosecutors and they would therefore not be able to sit on Friday.

The matter was postponed until August 17.

Beerhouse on Long doorman Joe Louis Kazadi Kanyona, 33, was attacked by three men while standing outside the bar on Saturday June 21.

Western Cape police spokesperson Constable Noloyiso Rwexana said officers had arrived to find Kanyona lying on the floor with a stab wound to his neck.

The accused were arrested after CCTV footage caught the incident on camera.
