Alleged rapist held in N West

2012-09-17 16:39

Johannesburg - A man accused of raping a woman in Wolmaransstad was arrested on Monday morning, North West police said.

Sergeant Kelebogile Moiloa said the 26-year-old woman was walking home from a tavern with her boyfriend when a man attacked them.

He apparently hit the woman's boyfriend with an empty beer bottle on the head and dragged her to a nearby water reservoir.

The man was still raping the woman when the boyfriend arrived at the scene with police.

The attacker tried to run away, but was caught by police.

Another woman was raped in a separate incident in Wolmaransstad on Sunday.

Moiloa said the 23-year-old woman was walking from a tavern with a friend when a man attacked them.

Her friend ran away, but the woman was held down and raped by the man.

The rapist ran away after the incident, and could not be identified as he covered his face with a cloth during the attack.
