Johannesburg - An alleged car-theft syndicate boss and three of his henchmen were arrested in Mahikeng on Thursday morning, North West police said.

Brigadier Thulani Ngubane said seven stolen cars and two cars which had been tampered with were recovered during the arrest.

"According to police information the syndicate's modus operandi was to steal cars in Gauteng... and store them in Mahikeng, while making plans to sell them across the border to Botswana," he said.

"The police are expecting to make further arrests and also to request Interpol's assistance for further investigations in Botswana."

The four, aged between 30 and 33, would appear in the Mmabatho Magistrate's Court on Monday.
