Johannesburg - The cyclist who the DA claimed was hit by ANC deputy president Cyril Ramaphosa's motorcade will get a visit from Amcu and Wasp in hospital on Friday.

"[Mongezi] Mtungulu... has been transferred to LenMed Clinic in Lenasia where he is currently in ICU," the Association of Mineworkers and Construction Union (Amcu) and the Workers and Socialist Party (Wasp) said in a statement on Thursday.

On Sunday, Democratic Alliance Gauteng leader John Moodey claimed Ramaphosa's blue light convoy struck a cyclist in Wedela, North West.

Gauteng police spokesperson Brigadier Neville Malila dismissed the claim.

"That's nonsense, it never happened. The cyclist fell long before the convoy even passed him," he said.

African National Congress spokesperson Jackson Mthembu rejected the claim as lies.

The Wasp and Amcu maintained that Mtungulu, an Amcu member and mineworker at Harmony Gold's Kusasalethu shaft, was seriously injured and claimed that the alleged accident was being covered up.

According to their statement, the party and the union would release more details.

"The Wasp branch in Wedela stands together with the Kusasalethu shop stewards' committee in exposing this outrage - yet another tragic reminder of the high-handed attitude the ruling party takes to workers and poor people."
