Ammunition found in North West church

2012-09-01 09:27

Johannesburg - North West police found more than 5 000 live rounds of ammunition hidden underneath the floor of a church in Schweizer-Reneke on Friday.

Brigadier Thulani Ngubane said three crates with ammunition ranging from 9mm, R1, and R5 rounds were seized.

"Police found the ammunition hidden under a trapdoor in the wooden floor behind the pulpit."

No arrests have been made and police were investigating a case of unlawful possession of ammunition, Ngubane said.

Always new that religion has always been behind all wars.

      beki.khumalo - 2012-09-01 10:40

That has a lot of truth in it Sterwat! Unfortunately people tend to misunderstand such statements. They forget that religion and God are two different entities...

      hleriche - 2012-09-01 11:23

Take away religion, and people will wage wars over water one day, resources. It's in our human nature. Human's will choose something to fight about. Nothing to do specifically with religion. It's just in our nature...

The deal went wrong, police were tipped, money paid. Praise the whistle blower. What a shame in that province, fresh from the miners maimed there. Where do we go next? We still love SA, we have nowhere to go.

No where in this article is there any mention of right wing involvement??? Why are you people assuming this??? It was also not mentioned what the denomination of the church is.. assumption is the mother of all problems... Maybe the Priest/Domenie/Pastor/Minister runs the local shooting range????

  • beki.khumalo - 2012-09-01 11:16

I've been reading comments on this story and I'm amazed at how shallow we've become as South Africans! Honestly, both black and white folks turn such a simple article into an issue of race without any facts at all to base their arguements.\r\nHave some pride and think before you type. All that this article is saying is that there are criminal elements within a particular church. Until otherwise proven, any assumptions remain baseless and dangerous. Dangerous because they create further divisions whilst some of us seek unity...

      lj.roos - 2012-09-01 12:02

It's all about race, man, it will always be about race. Sometimes it feels like the end of Apartheid was just a veiled cease fire, it's all bs, you cannot imagine the amount of hidden hate there is between the groups, It's God's own mercy that we haven't imploded into full on bat$*%( war already. I don't think our societies will ever be able to truly peacefully live in the same continent.

      beki.khumalo - 2012-09-01 12:29

Lj.roos, it's NOT always about race! It's got nothing to do with race. Only those uneducated, unexposed, untravelled and ignorant see race in everything. Their world is too small, their reasoning is based on nothing but stereotypes, they lack the ability to reason with logic. In such a diverse country one only has themselves to blame for their ignorance. Take a local tour and venture into the townships, rural areas etc and you'll amazed and what beautiful people South Africans are. Sit down and share a beer and chat to fellow South Africans of all backgrounds and you'll see that race is all in the mind.

      john.pope.75491 - 2012-09-01 14:25

beki.khumalo -I dont know how to take you..? I’m trying to understand your viewpoint, but I just can’t get my head far enough up my a$$ to work it out...If I went into a township for a beer, they would kick my white a$$ out of there, WHY, because the government is keeping us deliberately segregated thru BEE and AA, in order to hold power..blame them for our countries continued racial failure, not the people at ground level..

      beki.khumalo - 2012-09-02 11:53

@JohnPope, I'm also unsure how I could be more lucid to you. However, whilst you play victim to an 'unfair government', some around you are creating wealth through these BEE and AA policies. I personally know of a number of white South Africans who, through truly understanding the real meaning of BEE and how it can provide economic growth for the country, have gone and created succesful businesses. A good example of this is Paul Hartley, Managing Director of BEESA Group. The issue here is YOUR perspective, stop obsessing with race and the world around you will change amazingly! I once lived in Cape Town and visited a township in Stellenbosch called Khayamandi. In Khaymandi there are international Stellenbosch University students staying in the township. It's cheaper for them and they get to learn and build lifelong relationships with members of the community. A friend of mine married an amazing young lady from Holland, whom he met in Khayamandi. Her family are a great people. So, when you take race out of this you'll realise that we are all the same, we share the same fears, want the best for our children etc. STOP obsessing about race! Next time the Bulls play in Soweto go to the stadium. Before or after the game go to places like Nambithi and enjoy good African cuisine. It will be worth it! Us, blacks, go to the Dros etc and have a time of our life without any fears. Why should you fear?

You can make fun of me but don't make fun of Jesus. That will be a biggest mistake in your life. I'm not suprised to see this guys keeping so many guns. Even peter carried a sword wherever he went. He even cut a soldier's ear while trying to protect Jesus. This people may be criminals but its not Jesus who taught them that.

      zaatheist - 2012-09-02 09:00

walter.lebza OK. This is my daily reality check to test the existence of your almighty, omnipresent, all powerful, “I will not be mocked”, god. Attention: god. Are you listening? I think you are a know nothing, do nothing, useless, embarrassing waste of human energy and money. You come on down here, show yourself so I can give you a good klap. Come on then, smite me now. Waiting ................... time passes ................. nothing. Waiting ................... more time passes ................. nothing. Waiting ................... even more time passes. Yaaaawn! ................. nothing. Oh, well! Seems he is working in mysterious ways again. So mysterious it is almost as if he simply does not exist. PAH!

  • joachim.bernstein - 2012-09-01 12:15

If you look into history you will notice that once weapons or ammunition are hidden in a church then war is around the corner.

south african citizes can't u understand that church is the holy ground of the lord. plz do your staff else were.not church.

      lacrimose.wolf - 2012-09-02 00:46

Priests at Regina Mundi (Soweto) regularly smuggled and stored weapons during the Apartheid years. They also helped to disguise "wanted" people as priests to get them past police cordons. And so you will read stories of the same the world over. Wherever there is a war, churches are good places to store weapons. Hallowed or holy ground is just a tool to prey on the superstitious. And then they explain it all away as doing a god's work. When it comes to war, there is no neutrality.

  • teddy.beer.319 - 2012-09-02 00:08

Possibly left there in 1989 and forgotten when war didn't happen as was anticipated by the people who put it there.

      lacrimose.wolf - 2012-09-02 00:47

Possibly left there last week for the war to come.
