Andrea goes home

Cape Town - Andrea Katzeff, 10, has been discharged from the N1 City Hospital, but just for a few days.
She has to return to hospital on Tuesday morning so that doctors can do a follow-up examination to see how her wounds are healing. Andrea lost her scalp nearly three weeks ago when her long blonde hair was caught in the axle of a moving go-kart at an indoor course at the Canal Walk shopping mall.
Her father, Neill Katzeff of Welgemoed in Bellville, says: "We are all very pleased that Andrea is coming home. It was fabulous to get all her things together at hospital and now we can re-unite as a family at home.
He says, though, that there's no talk of the bandages being removed just yet. Her mother, Natalie, says: "Everything has been topsy-turvy since we heard that she can come home."
Andrea was ecstatic when she heard she would be discharged. Apparently it caught her unawares, although the doctors told her on Wednesday that she would be allowed to go home now and again for a day at a time.
Natalie says the doctors took photographs on Friday during an operation to remove staples from the wounds. Andrea and her parents are now prepared for what she will look like when the bandages are removed. "It's much better doing it this way", she says.
Andrea will not return to Welgemoed Primary School in the near future.
"No, it's much too soon. She has to be kept quiet at home and get use to the surroundings again. There's still a long way to go."
