Angry bees follow woman into ambulance

2011-12-13 15:50

Pretoria - A 50-year-old Pretoria woman was rushed to hospital on Tuesday after she was attacked by a swarm of bees while gardening, paramedics said.

Netcare 911 spokesperson Jeff Wicks said the woman was taken to the Mamelodi day hospital in a critical but stable condition. She had been stung at least 50 times.

"The cause of the incident and the series of events leading up to it remain unclear."

Wicks said paramedics who attended to the woman had to ward off the bees at her house near Tsomo Drive in Mamelodi East.

Some of the bees followed her into the ambulance and had to be removed from the vehicle before the woman could be taken to hospital.

So she is 50 years old and stung 50 times. That's ageism. What is happening in mzansi? Even bees can discriminate. I feel sorry for the 70 years and above.

      Gregory Jurgens - 2011-12-13 17:55

      Discrimination is wild in SA.

Bees can be easily irritated by intrusion more especially when it's hot and if there is no pool or river near by when attacked it would be a mess. Hard luck to mama but I can't wait to see bees one day attacking rapists or murderers.

      Lara - 2011-12-13 20:25

Maybe we can train them to sniff out drugs as well. Imagine that woman with the dreadlocks of cocaine. A beehive it would be called.

      Tshivhombela Fhatuwani - 2011-12-13 20:51

That would be cool. Mind you, bees can't take bribe and they would simply face the full might of the sting.
