Pretoria – The inquest into the murder and mutilation of teenager Anika Smit is expected to continue in the Pretoria North Magistrate’s Court on Thursday.

Smit, 17, was raped and mutilated in her Theresa Park home on March 10, 2010. The Grade 11 pupil at Gerrit Maritz High School lived with her father Johan Smit at the time. On the day of her murder she stayed home from school because of an ear infection. She was raped, her throat was slit, and her hands were cut off.

Her hands have still not been found.

Smit's boyfriend, Nico Venter was accused of killing her, but the charges were withdrawn.

The inquest previously heard revelations about school children drinking blood shooters at a vampire party, and how one young man, Damian Treeby, became friends with a group of high school children that were interested in the occult - one of whom was into Satanism.

Treeby was questioned at the inquest, but had not been charged with anything.

The inquest was being held as there was not enough evidence to arrest and place someone on trial. It was intended to determine if someone could be criminally charged. The magistrate's findings would be sent to the National Prosecuting Authority for a decision on whether someone could be put on trial.
