Another East Rand couple shot

2012-03-09 08:02

Johannesburg - A man was shot dead and his girlfriend was seriously injured after a shooting in Reiger Park on the East Rand of Johannesburg, Gauteng police said on Friday.

Lieutenant Colonel Katleho Mogale said the 47-year-old man and his girlfriend were sitting in a car on Thursday night when they were approached by a white BMW with four occupants.

"One of the occupants fired shots at the couple's vehicle, killing the man and injuring his girlfriend."

This is the second shooting on the East Rand following a similar attack on a couple in Edenvale on Wednesday.

Gavin Adams, 39, and his wife, Leila were shot by three balaclava-clad men who drove a silver Renault with tinted windows.

The man was shot dead and his wife was rushed to a nearby hospital in a serious condition, Mogale said.

She declined to speculate if the two murders were gang related.

"We are still investigating and it is not clear if the murders are related to each other or gang related."

It is just sick that people think they have a right to take someone's life.

      Peter - 2012-03-09 08:31

Amen to that Bianca. Reading the comments above, it seems, unfortunately, that this view is held by a tiny minority on N24 (and perhaps in this country??). Quite ick if you ask me!!

      Aphrodite - 2012-03-09 10:45

It is sick indeed :( It's even sicker that people like Deus get to post their idiotic comments all over every thread.

      Deus - 2012-03-10 07:19

Mathilda, I apologise if I have offended you coloured sensibilities mos

In this country we need education system that can teach people how to think logically.if your mind is taught about thinking b4 any action ,there would not be many nuts people in our society. How can someone have the guts to kill another human being? This is madness that only good quality education can be able to abolish.we need a system that shall teach people to think deeply.

  • Annanje - 2012-03-09 09:09

Some people get a thrill out of killing random people, getting sensation out of the media, its a mentally sick person's way of being famous!! Or is this relatedto other crimes?, with our justice system we will only know once more are murdered!!

      JuditVictor - 2012-03-09 11:24

to Annanje, we can not even think of expecting it to be better. Kids now no longer have stay at home moms. It's just too easy to plonk little kids in front of TV's with blatant sex (on top of the sex education they get at school) and violence and their little brains favour those things. They grow up to be psychopathic killers. Kids need to sit at the mothers' knees and learn values and be loved and hugged and put into a safe bed at night. Our children are given away just soon after they're born, to a system who can never replace a good mother. I have looked into a killer's eyes - it's cold and without remorse or value. He doesn't mind dying and he cares less for your dying. Lying and cheating is almost now ruling everything. Honesty is rare.

      Bibi - 2012-03-09 11:51

@Juditvictor: Your point is valid about kids needing their mothers, however I think that kids need good mothers whether they see them only in the evening or the whole day. Kids also need their fathers, one who openly show respect and love for their mothers (and vice versa). In modern society, fathers (and sometimes mothers) are often absent and not in the picture at all and these parents have to work to support the family. I have several friends who grew up this way and they are prime examples of what the human race should be like. I think quality nuturing is more important and goes a long way. And there is a lot to be said for formal sex education at school, often parents are too inhibited, conservative and unknowledgable to discuss these critical and often life saving issues at home.

You live by a gun you will die by a gun.

      Rehan.Harmse - 2012-03-09 10:40

The only problem is that not all the victims have guns....

  • Davreaux - 2012-03-09 12:44

My uncle was the one killed last night and it makes you sit and think... what did he do to deserve such a death?????? its shocking.

      Marion - 2012-03-09 13:03

@Davreaux, sincere condolences to you and your family. I hope they catch the perpetrators soon so that you can get some sort of justice. You are right, no one deserves to die such a death.

      Marion - 2012-03-09 13:25

@Davreaux - I see they have taken someone into custody over this murder and hope that they don't blow the case through shoddy police work now.

      Michelle Kirsten - 2012-03-10 07:26

@Deus: word is that his uncle was a human being, you dolt! Davreaux, condolences. Some people forget that almost all people have loved ones whose loss is a tragedy to them.

      Candice - 2012-03-10 22:24

Davreaux my condolences to you and yours, but to ask that I think is a little silly. I dont mean to sound insensitive, but if you know gang war you pretty much know why he was killed. Gangsters dont just kill for no reason. And we all know that. How many ppl weren't hurt in this gang war already? Dont try to justify the actions of the diseased, or try to make him sound like a saint. You live by the gun, you die by the gun. Fact

      Davreaux - 2012-03-14 14:59

@Candice... Like i said, I dont know what really happened and neither do you. but the last time i checked (well my morals) it doesnt matter what crimes or sins you committed, noone deserves a death that inhumane... not even you. Thanks for the sympathies though :)

    WTF???

  • Teboho Mphaloane - 2012-03-09 13:22

Why can't the SAPS adopt some of the tactics used by Police State regimes against crime? I mean, I'm no fan of the regimes, but consider the Gestapo and the SD of the 3rd Reich (nazi Germany), Stalin's NKVD, or the old South Africa's Security Police: those guys were relentless in pursuing people deemed 'enemies of the state' (and I'd say today's criminals qualify as such).

  • mlvwk - 2012-03-09 21:52

These types of crime (murder) all started with the abolition of the death penalty.

      Deus - 2012-03-10 07:42

Don't be so simplistic, there are several issues involved here.

      Zing - 2012-03-14 15:15

The death penalty was rarely imposed, and mostly so for political reasons. It would probably not be a deterrent to people who think they can get away with crime.

  • Steve - 2012-03-09 23:41

Its time to start using the stadiums we built and nobody can pay for. Lets use something the Romans started, we can have people like these criminals thrown in with the lions. We would draw huge crowds, pay for the stadiums, reduce crime drastically and nobody would dare step out of line at the stadiums like they do after soccer matches. They would be too scared to be in next week fight program. We need not give them any weapons to defend themselves against the lions in the same way that they shoot unarmed people.
