Durban - Six gunmen made off with an undisclosed amount of money after they
robbed a Fidelity guard at Virginia Airport, north of Durban on
Friday afternoon, KwaZulu-Natal police reported.
The gunmen opened fire on the guard, who was carrying two money
bags to a Fidelity vehicle that was parked at the airport around
4.30pm, Superintendent Vasie Naidu said.
She said the guard dropped the bags and ran for cover in nearby
bushes.
The gunmen grabbed a bag and fled on foot for about 500 meters
before disappearing.
The guard sustained minor facial wounds and no other injuries were
reported.
Naidu said the guard had just landed at the airport after
collecting money from Durban's far north areas.
