Armed men rob bank customers

Johannesburg - A gang of four middle-aged men robbed customers at a First National Bank branch in Central City shopping centre in Mabopane on Tuesday afternoon, said Gauteng police.

Inspector Mathews Nkoadi said the bank had closed to the public at 15:00 and was allowing businesses to do their banking.

Four men, armed with pistols, stormed into the bank and ordered everyone inside to lie down. The men held the manager hostage, but were unable to get into the cashiers' cubicles.

The men robbed all the business customers of their money and ran to their car in which they drove off at speed.

No shots were fired and no one was injured. A case of bank robbery was being investigated.
