Johannesburg - An armed robber died when the owner of a shop in Grassy Park, Cape Town, shot him, Western Cape police said on Thursday.
"It is believed that three armed men entered the shop at closing time (on Wednesday night at about 21:00) forcing the owner and a staff member back into the shop," said police spokesperson Ian Leibowitz.
The robbers held the men at gun-point while demanding cash.
"The owner managed to get hold of his firearm, while on the ground. The suspects then fired several shots at the owner, who returned fire, fatally wounding one of the suspects".
Nothing was taken and no one else was injured.
A case of attempted robbery has been opened but no arrests have been made yet.
