Johannesburg - The driver of a minibus transporting school children was robbed at gunpoint in front of the pupils in Johannesburg on Wednesday, police said.

Two men wielding firearms approached the driver outside the Diversity High School in Booysens around 07:00, Warrant Officer Lorraine van Emmerik said.

They robbed the driver of his cellphone, car radio as well as car keys before they fled the scene in a getaway vehicle.

"We are looking for three suspects in a white double-cab Toyota bakkie."

The children who witnessed the robbery received counselling.

South African lawlessness has gone beyond the point of no return in just 15 years. One had almost forgotten in the time before 1994 that south of the Limpopo was in fact AFRICA. It very much is. **Driver faces charges for 55 kids in taxi **Joburg pupils safe after shoot-out **Robbers hid behind schoolchildren in shoot-out Canada is called the "Great White North". We have lots of snow here too. Only the news items in the media are sooooo boring: *A new bicycle lane in the main street. *A new $12 million recreational facility. *12 people actually held a demo in the streets because they do not like the bicycle lane - why can't the kids walk, it is good exercise. *There was a call out for 911 because a car without winter tires slid off an icy road. *Oil extraction from a sand-reservoir is opposed. *Mrs. Goodall is taking her grandkids to go snow sledding and she willpost the photos. *Etc.

I still love and miss SA and read the SA news each day to remind myself why I am living in tax free Caribbean bliss and thus do not yearn to go back......

No place like home. You'll be surprised to discover that most of us live perfectly normal lives enjoying the African sun and beauty. Stay where you are. We are not so attached to you as you are attached to us.

@Saksak "No place like home. You'll be surprised to discover that most of us live perfectly normal lives enjoying the African sun and beauty" Sure, UNTIL you or your family are subject to a violent incident, then the 'african sun and beauty' pales and turns ugly real quick! It's not like stubbing your toe you know, a murder or rape is a terrible stain on a family and NEVER goes away.

Andries & Adam - much as I love this country I wish I could join you! Snow or sun - don't care which but I know it'll be a vast improvement on this hellhole :(

Yes, Sak-Sak. Normal: crime at that level is normal for Africa and normal for you. THAT exactly is the problem.

I have a bad feeling about these kind of incidents starting to happen more at schools. Its a question of time...

The kids should have received guns - next time it happens, shoot the robbers!

What really piss##$#$# me off is this law of muzzling the media by not allowing them to give description of race. I mean please we all know that the majority of crime involves black SA's. But this time it might have been a different race of person. "We are looking for three suspects in a white double-cab Toyota bakkie"? What the hell it that? How about;” We are looking for three me, two black males, one of which was slightly lighter in complexion and a white male with graying hair".... Enough with this cover up mentality; let’s get the information out there so we can help catch these bastards.

      Oscar - 2012-03-24 02:45

Dave I agree with you, but for the interim you can accept that all crimes are committed by black people unless you are told it was committed by a white person.
