Johannesburg - A man has been arrested after an arms cache was found at a house in Steynsburg in the Eastern Cape, police said on Thursday.
Four rifles, three revolvers and more than 500 rounds of ammunition were seized on Wednesday, said Lieutenant Colonel Sibongile Soci.
"Forensics [experts] and investigators were called in to determine the source of the artillery (sic) which may possibly lead to other arms caches," said Soci.
A 43-year-old man was arrested on scene. Details of his involvement were still unclear.
The man would appear in the Steynsburg Magistrate's Court soon.
"This is the best Christmas present I could have asked for," said Eastern Cape provincial commissioner Lieutenant General Celiwe Cele.
"Every firearm recovered and every suspect arrested is one more step towards ensuring that people in South Africa are and feel safe."
