Artist held for rape at KKNK

2010-04-05 23:11

Johannesburg - A 37-year-old artist was arrested for allegedly raping a 24-year-old woman at the Klein Karoo Nationale Kunstefees (KKNK) on Sunday, police said.

Southern Cape police spokesperson Malcolm Pojie said the incident happened at around 04:10 on Sunday morning in the Tente Dorp camping site of the Afrikaans art festival.

"He was offered a place to stay for the night and allegedly raped her on Sunday morning," Pojie said.

He did not want to reveal the artist's identity.

Pojie said the victim was treated at hospital after laying the charge against the artist at the Oudshoorn police.

"He gave himself over at the police station with his legal representative," said Pojie.

He was expected to appear on a charge of rape in the Oudshoorn Magistrate's Court on Tuesday.
