Cape Town - The Asset Forfeiture Unit seized R2.9m worth of luxury goods from a former bishop in Port Elizabeth, a report said on Wednesday.

According to eNCA, the AFU raided the home of fraud accused Samuel Banzana after a High Court ruling granting the National prosecuting authority a protection order, effectively freezing Banzana's assets.

The report said that among the assets taken were three luxury cars, and his home will also be seized.

Banzana, is the manager of a trust founded by ANC veteran Govan Mbeki, which builds RDP houses in Port Elizabeth.

He is reportedly suspected of getting kickbacks from a construction firm he allegedly awarded tenders to for the houses.
