Johannesburg - Baby Marzanne Kruger was discharged from hospital on Thursday even though she had still not regained her sight after being attacked in a house robbery several weeks ago, reported the SABC.
"Baby Marzanne was discharged on Thursday morning and we are very optimistic about her progress," family spokesperson Kobus Grobler told the public broadcaster.
"The bad news is that she has lost her sight and we don't know if it's permanent.
"It's still too early to say, so its a bit of bad news tied with the good news."
Family lawyer Pieter van R Coetzee confirmed that Kruger had been discharged, but would not provide further details.
Coetzee said the family would be releasing a statement on Friday afternoon.
Third suspect has fled
Two of the men accused of assaulting Kruger appeared in court on Thursday.
The Johannesburg Magistrate's court rejected a bail application by Nelson Maphosa, 25, who is from Maputo, in Mozambique.
The court found that Maphosa did not have any ties to South Africa and should not receive bail.
A bail application by his co-accused George Nyantumbo, 28, was withdrawn last week.
A third suspect, Chakhoma Machaba, is believed to have fled to Mozambique.
