Baby burnt in shack fire

Johannesburg - A 1-year-old baby girl sustained critical burn injuries in a shack fire in Eldorado Park, police said on Saturday.

Spokesperson Felicity Radebe said the baby's parents left her in the care of her uncle on Friday, while they attended a funeral in KwaZulu-Natal.

However, he went to visit friends at 20:00, leaving her alone in his shack in the Slovo Park informal settlement. The shack caught fire.

Radebe said the child was in a critical condition in hospital.

He said the uncle had been arrested for child neglect.
