Johannesburg - A baby girl was among five people who were killed when a vehicle crashed down an embankment in Zwelisha near Estcourt on Sunday.

Four other people survived the accident, said KwaZulu-Natal EMS spokesperson Robert Mckenzie.

"Paramedics from KZN Emergency Medical Services responded to the crash earlier this afternoon and had to clamber down to steep embankment to access the patients," said Mckenzie.

One of the four was in a critical condition while the other three were in a serious condition.

"The patients were stabilized at the scene, before being transported to hospital," said Mckenzie.

All nine of the patients were travelling in a single SUV. It was not immediately clear what had led to the crash.
