Umtata - Eastern Cape police were on Tuesday still searching for a man who killed a nine-month-old baby last month.
Investigating officer, Detective-Inspector Tembekile Silwana, said that on September 26 a tall man wearing a balaclava entered a house near Umtata where he found three children.
The suspect asked two of the children, the eldest being 10 years, to go fetch "something" for him at another house. When they came back the man had disappeared with the baby.
He said community members helped the family to search for the baby and they found its mutilated body in a nearby forest.
The baby's head had been severed and was found a few metres from the body.
The baby's legs, arms and private parts were missing.
Silwana said they had not had a breakthrough in the investigation yet but had questioned a number of people.
