Baby's body wrapped 'like packet of meat'

2012-02-24 08:28
Cape Town - A 26-year-old woman has been sentenced to six years in jail for killing her baby and storing the body in a freezer like a packet of meat.

The Daily Voice reported that Buzelwa Gini strangled the baby just over a year ago, froze the body, wrapped it up and gave it to children, telling them to give the “packet of meat” to her boyfriend.

Community members in the West Side informal settlement near Villiersdorp in the Western Cape were shocked to hear of the murder.

No one, not even her own family, had known she was pregnant.

It was believed that she gave birth in toilets opposite the house she shared with her aunt.

Some believed Gini had psychological problems and an uncle said they thought she had killed the baby because she was “possessed”.

Gini was convicted of murder and sentenced to 12 years in prison of which six years were suspended for five years.
