Bloemfontein - A Northern Cape municipal official and a road work contractor have been arrested on fraud and corruption charges for bad repair works, a police spokesperson said on Wednesday.
Captain Cherelle Ehlers said Cornelius Joachin, 51, an employee at the Gamagara Municipality in Kathu, was arrested with Maria Freeman, 41, a contractor.
They appeared in the Kathu Magistrate's Court and were released on bail of R1 000 each on Wednesday.
Ehlers said the case was postponed until September 8 for further investigations and to review bail conditions.
Police said it was alleged that the two received "donations" for roadworks, worth about R250 000, done in December 2009. The roads were allegedly patched and not fixed properly.
