Johannesburg - Police have seized 30 000 Viagra tablets in Edenvale on the West Rand on Wednesday.
Superintendent Eugene Opperman said a police patrol pulled over a bakkie that was "acting suspiciously" on Wednesday evening.
Police found boxes of tablets in various sizes, colours and shapes and with different names, such as Vigora 100, Tada Rich 20, Target 100 and Lyga.
He said the value of the tablets was estimated at about R1.23m.
The tablets had been smuggled into the country from India. Import documents stated the contents of the boxes as imitation jewellery.
Police suspected the tablets were meant to be sold on the black market or even in pharmacies.
The driver of the bakkie could not explain the situation and was arrested.
He could be charged with fraud and offences under the medicines control act.
Opperman said he would appear in court on Friday.
