The woman, who did not want to be identified, said the men ran past the café where she works carrying four large bags of cash.

No shots were fired and they escaped in three VW Golf GTIs - two of them silver, one white.

It was the second time in three months that robbers have struck at the centre, in Mill Street, the woman said.

Western Cape police spokesperson Captain Frederick van Wyk confirmed to News24 that an armed robbery occurred at about 10:20 on Saturday morning. Two unidentified males approached security as they were loading an ATM machine inside the bank and pointed firearms at them. "They took an undisclosed amount of cash and fled the scene," he said. No shots were fired and nobody was injured, he confirmed.

Police were on the scene checking CCTV footage and getting affidavits from those who witnessed the robbery, Van Wyk added.

The centre’s security manager confirmed the robbery but would not speak to the media. Centre management also confirmed the robbery, but were not able to give more details to the media.

Calls to the Nedbank branch and went unanswered. A Nedbank spokesperson was not immediately available for comment.

A number of people took to Twitter to share the news of the robbery.
