Port Elizabeth - A suspected bank robber was killed in a shoot-out with police in Mthatha on Tuesday, Eastern Cape police said.
Superintendent Mzukisi Fatyela said the 29-year-old man was one of five suspects who robbed a First National Bank at Qumbu in July.
"Four of his friends were arrested at the time, and he managed to get away. We received information that he was in town and followed it up".
Fatyela said police spotted the man in Owen Street. He resisted arrest and fired shots at the police.
"Police fired back and he was shot and killed on the scene," said Fatyela.
He said one of the three policemen on the scene had slight injuries. No one else was hurt during the incident.
The man's name could not be released as his next of kin had not yet been informed.
