Beer truck hijacked, crew forced to drink

2012-08-31 11:42

Johannesburg - Three men were arrested on Friday after police found stolen beer worth R200 000 in their possession, Gauteng police said.

Lieutenant Colonel Katlego Mogale said the men, aged 18, 25, and 28, were arrested after police searched a premises in Hillbrow where stolen beer was allegedly unloaded from a hijacked truck on Thursday night.

"Police found three men at the premises as well as the stolen beer," Mogale said.

She said a truck transporting beer was hijacked on Thursday night by three men who allegedly tied up the crew of the truck before bundling them into the back of the truck.

"The three men then drove to the premises in Hillbrow where they forced the tied up crew to drink while they unloaded the beer."

Mogale said the truck and the crew were later abandoned in Jeppe.

"Police are still searching for the three men who hijacked the truck."

The three arrested men were expected to appear in the Hillbrow Magistrate's Court soon on charges of possession of suspected stolen property.

  • johan.pieters - 2012-08-31 12:03

Not a lot of force surely needed to make the crew drink...

  • The-madKing - 2012-08-31 12:03

you've gotta admit .. forcing the hijacked guys to drink is kinda bad ass

Only in the minds of some lol the thought process. "Hey guys lets highjack this truck of beer then force the drivers to get plastered. That way when they say they were highjacked the cops wont believe them and think they drank all the booze and we will be safe YAY"

  • jean.rimmer - 2012-08-31 12:34

I'm thinking the crew were involved here. They drank some beer while helping their buddies to unload the truck before being tied up as a cover-up. And when police asked why they smelled of beer their response was "Uhhm...they forced us to drink...yup, they forced us!".

Being hijacked and forced to drink beer. Two things thay could be a major problem for me. One is the brand of beer I would be forced to drink and secondly the beer is not fridge cold. Nothing worse than a beer thats not lekker cold.

      daryltt - 2012-08-31 15:14

The only thing worse than "warm beer" is "no beer"...

"Police are still searching for the three men who hijacked the truck."??? Please clarify this up for me. How could three men have been arrested but police are still looking for the 3 men. Were there 6 people all and all?

As much as this is funny, i do feel sorry if the drivers were non-drinkers. A driver at my prev company was hijacked and they poured booze all over him and held his nose shut so he was forced to swallow, this poor guy NEVER touched booze and never has in his life. He was hospitilzed as his body when into shock. LOL Still funny tho

  • BigIgRey - 2012-08-31 12:54

bloody fools!!! how could they keep that much booze to themselves??? i hope they rot in jail!!!

  • nceba.sam - 2012-08-31 12:54

Perhaps the hijackers were gonna meet up with the other two guys that were arrested with four sheep in their car..

  • rational.faith - 2012-08-31 13:01

Am I confused or is the story confusing? Three people were arrested and charged, supposedly the original driver and his co-workers - now drunk. But the three who hijacked them are still missing. Yet, the stolen beer was found... The question that begs an answer is: were there *really* hijackers? Or only 3 colleagues who stole the beer, but got drunk in the process. Unless the colleagues were again locked up in the back...

"...three men who allegedly tied up the crew of the truck before bundling them into the back of the truck." "...they forced the tied up crew to drink while they unloaded the beer" These two just don't make sense to me, how do tied up men drink?

  • zaks2217 - 2012-08-31 16:16

Maybe they gave the cops some beer also

  • bdalasile - 2012-09-04 15:11

im sure the drivers would'nt mind bieng hijacked on a daily basis coz they get 2 drink on the job
