Johannesburg - The case against two men allegedly involved in the murder of an elderly couple was postponed in the Belfast Magistrate's Court, the Hawks said on Thursday.

The case was postponed to 7 March for a bail application, said spokesperson Captain Paul Ramaloko.

Bongani Joseph Nconyane, 22, and Irvin Brown Nkosi, 19, from Siyathuthuka township outside Belfast, were charged with the murders of Rudolf and Elna van Heerden, both aged 79.

Their bodies were discovered in a freezer at their home in Belfast on 9 January. They had been beaten over the head with a blunt object. Their hands and feet had been tied with cables.

The killers stole their 4x4 vehicle and two firearms. The vehicle was found abandoned on the N4 near Middelburg.

The two men face charges of murder, theft, housebreaking, armed robbery, and possession of an unlicensed firearm.
