Benoni squatters: State appeals

Johannesburg - The government has asked the Supreme Court of Appeal to overturn a judgment forcing it to evict and rehouse 40 000 people squatting on a Benoni farm, the media here reported on Tuesday.
The illegal occupation of a portion of Abraham Duvenhage's farm, began in 2000 and is set to continue for a number of months as the state tries to appeal against a Pretoria High Court ruling.
Judge William de Villiers ruled against the State last November, and recently refused leave to appeal.
