Mbombela - A 22-year-old man from Nkohlakalo Trust near Kabokweni, Mpumalanga, is recovering in hospital after he was shot by police trying to arrest him for having sex with a pig.

A Kabokweni police constable on her way to work at 04:00 on Thursday investigated strange noises and discovered the man and an accomplice busy having sex with the pig.

“She asked the two how they could do such a thing to the animal,” said Kabokweni police spokesperson Themba Nkosi.

“She then went to report the incident at the police station and came back with her colleagues.”

Nkuna said the man resisted arrest when he was cornered in his house and was shot in the leg during a scuffle with the police.

“He is under police guard at Themba Hospital. His accomplice escaped and we are still searching for him," Nkuna added.

A case of bestiality has been opened and the man will appear in the Kabokweni Magistrate's Court as soon as he is released from hospital.

Nkuna added that a state veterinarian who was called to attend to the animal had failed to arrive.
